Accra, 17th July 2023 – Governments across Africa have long been plagued by ineffective policies, leading to widespread hardship, poverty, and despair among young people. However, amidst these challenges lies an opportunity to ignite the potential of Africa, rejuvenate its struggling economy, and pave the way for a freer and more prosperous continent. It is with this vision in mind that we announce the inaugural George Ayittey Memorial Lectures.
The George Ayittey Memorial Lectures is a three-day event taking place on four university campuses in Ghana to delve into the remarkable legacy of George Ayittey as an esteemed economist, educator, and visionary leader. The lectures will explore the public and academic impact of Ayittey’s ideas and their relevance in the face of Africa’s economic downturn.

- University of Mines and Technology – 24th July 2023 from 6:30 pm-9:00 pm
- University of Professional Studies, Accra – 25th July 2023 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm
- Academic City University College – 26th July 2023 from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm
- University of Ghana – 26th July 2023 at 6:30 pm-9:00 pm
Under the theme of “Africa’s Future: George Ayittey’s Legacy and the Vision of a Free Market,” the esteemed lineup of guest speakers will inspire and challenge attendees with their expert insights:
Dr. Tom G. Palmer: Political economist and acclaimed author, known for his expertise in advancing the principles of liberty and free markets.
Kofi Bentil Esq: A distinguished lawyer and policy analyst with a deep understanding of the socioeconomic landscape of Africa.
